I don't know what happened to summer. School starts in a few days and we might make it to the beach one or two more times but fall is really on its way.

Lots of changes in my life. My dad passed away a few weeks ago and I would say I'm still in the disbelief stage of grief. Also my job of three years is not happening this school year which is a nice break but the extra money sure was nice.


So in an effort to take care of me, I have been trying to sit down and create here and there.  I made this fun Disney page today for a stash challenge over at Disney Scrappers.

I used lots of embellies I've had hanging around for ages and I love the way this page came out. I really pushed myself to layer.

I also made this page last month for an August Lily Bee challenge to use paper strips. Real life got in the way of posting it in time, but it was definitely out of the box for me and a page that I really like. I'm linking up to SoapHouseMama's  Layout Love Linky for pages left unblogged!

Card Challenge!

I am playing along with the Just Us Girls color challenge today. I needed a crafty jump start and this really helped!

These are  perfect end of summer colors.

And here's the card I created.

I also gained some inspiration from the Swirlydoos card forum. While I ended up veering away from the sketch design, I kept the other requirements: use Prima packaging (the kraft cutout) and I also used a piece of lace. Floral patterned paper and sticker letters are from BasicGrey, grid pp is AC Amy Tangerine,  and the sugar/spice diecuts and the ball fringe are Crate Paper (Farmhouse).

I am also hooking this up to simon says stamp and show for the "No Rules" challenge.

Kit Club love!

I've long admired Studio Calico kits and I finally signed up to receive a few months worth. The kit that came this past May really just blew me away. I loved it so much I needed to just admire it for awhile. Spurred on by recent posts by May Flaum in her CAMP SCRAP series, today is the day I am ripping into it and possibly breaking the remainder up into general scrapbook product population ;  i.e. mixing it in with my other supplies.

Included in the kit were these little diecuts.  Hmmmm....I had all these little bits laid out a piece of dark cardstock....maybe that for a background??? Not my usual style but I pulled out a photo and I liked it!

 (disclaimer: I'm not sure where that butterfly came from but it doesn't match any of the other diecuts. Perhaps it flew into there?)

I pulled some papers from the kit that I wanted to work with. I started to cut and layer. I traditionally lay my whole layout out before I glue anything and today was no exception.

I cut a ruler off the Echo Park patterned paper and splattered some mist in the top left hand corner. 

 I finally used one of  the October Afternoon Sprinklers I had and I really liked the paint like look of it against the dark cardstock.

I layered a BG scrap that coordinated  with the colors instead of cutting a whole sheet of pattern just for a 2 inch strip. I can't help it, it's a sickness. 

 I needed something up by the spatter....a repeating pattern?? Ohhhh hexagons of course!!

I gasped when I first saw the Studio Calico Mistable Hexagons and I was excited to finally use them. I pulled out 2 shades of Staz-On ink because I figured that was the best fit for the fabric-like finish of the mistables.

 I  chose a stamp (an old one by Club Scrap) and some brown ink.

 I loved the way it looked immediately!

I inked all the edges of my patterned paper with brown ink and added a strip of the washi tape from the kit to the border. The layout is coming together!

Next up: the title!
I know what I wanted to say and what I wanted it to look like. I love to mix my title fonts and I knew my last word had to stand out. I opened up the Heidi Swapp Magic Color letters from the kit and selected a gray ink from Hero Arts.

I stuck the sticker letter on my finger and rubbed it onto the ink pad. Very high tech technique!

I wiped the excess ink away with a paper towel so the resist showed up.

 I'm liking this!!

I did have 2 failed letters. I think I soaked the letters with too much ink. That's okay...there are a ton of letters in the package.

Now it's time to glue! 

 Okay...so I get all my papers attached and then went back to my title. I didn't have enough of the scripty Thickers that I had in mind for word #1 but these Amy Tangerine letters worked fine and I also used some Jillibean Soup Alphabeans to complete it.

I love love love sticker letters and always have a bunch to choose from.

So now the bottom right corner needed something.... so THIS happened. 

I repeated the hexagon and used some diecut bits, inked all the edges and I also layered the patterned strip that comes on all the SC paper now.    I have quite a collection of these!

I journaled a little and I am done!!  WOOTWOOT!!!   I have busted into the kit and justified my purchase!

Challenged by The Studio Challenges

I played along this month with THE STUDIO CHALLENGES blog.

 It was a sweet color combo that looked like this

Gray. pink, blue, beige and black.

I loved the softness of the palette and set to work looking through my stash to find just the right combo.

I was so happy to finally use some  pretty paper, chipboard and brads from the My Mind's Eye Follow Your Heart collection. A few sheets from  October Afternoon Farmhouse and a piece of patterned paper  from the Pink Paislee Spring Jubilee line also helped with the vintage feel to this page.  I inked all the edges with a new ink pad from Hero Arts called Wet Cement along with some JBS Malted Milk. Nothing finishes off a page like a few random buttons and a few inky dots of  SC Mister Huey (Inky Black)

  A few layered touched included Jenni Bowlin Studio Quilted stickers (Memo) on top of a OA Farmhouse journaling tag.

Camp Scrap!

So I finally got some mojo and made some pages!! Yippee!!!

I have been super inspired by May Flaum and her daily Camp Scrap projects. I love her style!

After seeing this tag, I was inspired to go digging around and find my old  rainbow inks

. Are they alcohol inks? I think they are. I used my Tim Holtz craft mat and some glossy cardstock and pretended they were. Here's what I made.

I used some Versamark ink + white embossing powder and made a resist first. Next, I swirled around some blue and green inks on my craft mat and dipped the glossy cardstock in it. I added a few stamped images and walked away for a few days.

Today, I had a ball going through some of my vintage stash to find bits and pieces for this tag. Helloooo Making Memories definition stickers!!! I finished all the layering off with a coat of Martha Stewart gold glitter paint. I started off just highlighting with it but then the crazy glitter lady inside me took over and I painted the whole shebang!

I also scrapped 2 pages this week.

 A red, white and blue confection inspired by May's "play with new paper" challenge.

 I had to use this awesome red and white chevron pattern by MME. Little bits of Jenni Bowlin stickers on here too.

Next up was this quick page for my Disney album. The journaling is about how Chip took this photo op to a new level by flipping my DH the bird!!! Ha ha ha...very funny! Although Chip only has 4 fingers so maybe it's just a misunderstanding!

JULY!

Has it really been a whole month since I've blogged??

Summer is in full swing here now and June was just a busy month filled with lots of driving to and from final exams and work and a bunch of end-of school-year-activities. We also celebrated a bunch of birthdays (mine included) plus a few graduations.

I'm aiming to fill my July with lots of scrapping !
